Craig Kenneth Barker in court for unlawful possession of firearms

The concreter pleaded guilty to importing illegal products and to possessing multiple illegal guns, including a sawn-off rifle, knives, pistols and ammo.

A Curra concreter escaped more jail time after he was convicted on Tuesday of multiple weapons offences, including possessing a sawn-off shotgun, and importing parts to make a silencer.

Craig Kenneth Barker, 37, appeared in custody in the Gympie Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to possessing firearm accessories and industry goods between July 18, 2020 and August 18, 2020.

He was convicted of possessing ammunition, a shortened firearm, two pistols, a push knife, a shotgun, utensils, and of intentionally importing tier two goods.

The court heard that on June 11, 2020, Barker was found with two pistols, a push knife, explosive ammunition and a shotgun without government approval. He was also found with pipes and digital scales that had been used for dangerous drugs.

On September 18, 2020, Barker was found in possession of a rifle ridgebolt and a shortened rifle without government approval, it heard.

Barker appeared in custody via videolink.

Gympie Magistrates Court heard he committed the offences while on parole for another weapon offence from 2015.

Barker was fined $3000 and given a two-year suspended jail sentence.
