Australia Day 2022: What’s on in Gympie
There is no shortage of fun and festivities to be found across the Gympie region on an Australia Day expected to welcome a record number of new citizens to the region.

A record number of new Australian citizens will be welcomed during Gympie’s Australia Day celebrations on Wednesday, January 26.
It is one of a number of celebrations and parties being held to make the occasion.
More than 40 Gympie region residents will become Australian citizens during the citizenship ceremony being held by the Gympie Regional Council as part of the commemorations, which will also including the presentation of Australia Day awards.
Memorial Park celebrations
Take a picnic rug or camping chair, grab a snag and join Gympie for its official Australia Day celebrations in Gympie Memorial Park from early on Wednesday.
A free BBQ breakfast cooked by Supporting Chemotherapy in Cooloola will start at 7.30am with the Citizenship Ceremony starting at 8.30am followed by the Australia Day Awards recognising some of the region’s shining community stars.
Rainbow Beach fun
The Rainbow Beach Sports Club will be the host of a day long party with a raft free fun activities.
These includes the aquatic centre from 6am, the tennis courts from 6am and barefoot bowls from 10am.
Live music with just Jen will keep the crowds dancing, while they can enjoy a barbecue, games, and giveaways on the club’s top deck from 10am.
Lake Borumba
The popular Mary Valley waterhole and campgrounds will be home to an array of fun family activities such as thong throwing, Aussie bush music, volleyball, cricket, sack races, local crafts and food like billy tea and damper, pies and lamingtons.
Rattler celebrations
Get ready for a family fun day at the historic Gympie Station with a barbecue, entertainment and more.
The Rattler departs at 10am and returns at 1pm on Wednesday, January 26.
Ticket prices for the Australia Day service are $65 for an adult, $35 for a child, with a special family ticket covering two adults and two children available for $175.
A first-class carriage is also available with premium-service options.
Gympie RSL
Head on down to Gympie RSL for a fun day of entertainment, raffles and a cash giveaway where lucky patrons will be able to win up to $3000.
Entertainment will be provided by the RSL’s musician Marco, who will be pumping out well-loved Aussie ballads old and new.
Royal Hotel
Australia Day is being celebrated with a bang at the Royal Hotel in the Gympie CBD, with festivities including an Aussie Day themed children’s disco, and eating competition and free pool and darts all day long.
Queenslander Hotel
Pong, backyard cricket and thong throwing competition are among the festivities on offer at the Queenslander Hotel on Wednesday.
Kandanga Hotel
It is that time of the year again when the popular Mary Valley Hotel goes on the hunt for the best rissoles.
