Gympie artist Cherryl Chambers-Williams will share in more than $12,000 in prizemoney after the winners of the 2021 Du Rietz Art Awards were announced at the weekend.
The Gympie Regional Council revealed the winners chosen from “186 high quality artworks (from) artists all over Australia”, including Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane, as well as the Gympie region.
The winners were announced at the Gympie Regional Gallery last Friday night, with councillor Dan Stewart among those in attendance.
Lilli Waters was awarded the major 2D Award for her entry titled ‘Last Days’, while the 2D Highly Commended Award was won by Tory Richards from Shelly Beach for her work ‘Young Reflections’.
Ms Chambers-Williams won the Ceramic Award with her work titled ‘Fire on Water’, and Buderim artist Carol Forster was awarded the Major 3D Award with her ceramic piece ‘From My Garden’.

Zela Bissett got the nod for the Locals Award with her assemblage titled ‘My Mother’s Treasures’.
All the winners’ pieces will be available at the Du Rietz Art Awards exhibition, on display until Friday, September 3.
