Fireys called in as ‘paddock basher’ starts Gympie region blaze

Rural Fire Service crews were called in to extinguish a Gympie region blaze started by “paddock bashing” on Tuesday afternoon, authorities have revealed.

“This, along with mowers and slashers are fairly common causes of fires starting. However, it is earlier than normal for this ignition type to occur,” The Palms RFB wrote.

“Please ensure proper care is taken, particularly when “paddock bashing”. It would be wise to properly prepare the area and supervise those less experienced.

“A simple question to ask is ‘what could go wrong here, and if it does, what can I do about it?’. Proper planning and preparation prevents a lot of heartache later on.”

The brigade also shared photos of a recent controlled burn they had conducted in the area, using a loaned appliance supplied by the Chatsworth brigade.
