Family of crash victims ‘blown away’ as community raises $50k
The family of a Gympie mother and daughter who were both killed in a crash at Toowoomba have been left gobsmacked by the generosity and support of the community.

The Gympie family torn apart by a fatal accident that claimed the lives of mother and daughter Jessica and Giselle Greig has been gobsmacked by the outpouring of generosity and support from the local community.
Jessica, 29, and Giselle, 12, were riding in an SUV with the rest of the Greig family on July 8, when the SUV collided with a truck on the Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road at Mt Irving near Toowoomba, killing them both.
The two youngest children, Jett and Oceana, survived the crash and are being cared for by their grandparents while father Alex Greig remains in a critical condition in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
A GoFundMe that was started by family friend Carolyn Elder has only been live for one week, but has already raised more than $50,000.
The funds raised will help the Greig family pay for the funeral costs and education fees for Jett and Oceana.
Jessica’s sister Ashleigh Valentine said the whole family had been “blown away” by the generosity of the community.
“It is amazing to witness the generosity people have supporting our family and the financial road ahead,” Ms Valentine told The Gympie Times.
“Some people, we do not know them personally, but we are very thankful to them for the support they have shown our family during these tough circumstances.”
Ms Valentine said the family extended a “massive” thank you to all those who had donated.
“You have made a huge impact on the way in which we can provide an education for the two young ones,” she said.
“This will set up the kids’ education for the next few years and provide my parents (the children’s grandparents) with support.”
