Optima Healthcare unveils plans for new Gympie dental clinic

A new health precinct is on the verge of emerging in Gympie with plans unveiled for a clinic next door to land earmarked for a medical development. Here is what we know.

Experts fear for the dental health of Australia's population

A health precinct is on the verge of emerging near Gympie Central Shopping Centre with plans unveiled to open a new dental clinic 200m up the road.

The developer, Optima Healthcare Group, has lodged plans with Gympie Regional Council for the centre, which if approved will be built on land two blocks presently occupied by two timber houses.

The blocks are next to vacant land earmarked by another developer, Balpese, as the intended home of a new medical centre.

The proposed dental clinic would include eight surgery rooms, two consultation areas, a reception area and more than three dozen parking spaces.

If approved the new clinic will be built on land occupied by two houses.

The clinic would be bordered by the new medical centre (if approved by the council), and a parking lot attached to the Shell Service station fronting the Bruce Highway.

Another dental practice, River Dental, is already near the site.

Optima has been involved in the development of dozens of projects across Australia.

These include the Frankston Eye and Laser Centre, Geelong Family Dental Care, Adelaide Orthodontists and Swan Hill Smiles.
