11 drink or drug drivers caught behind the wheel in Gympie region

From alcohol readings more than six times the legal limit to causing a crash and blowing .185, these locals have paid the price in court for drink or drug driving offences.

11 men and women faced the Gympie Magistrates Court last week after they made the decision to get behind the wheel with alcohol or drugs in their system.

From alcohol readings more than six times the legal limit to causing a crash and blowing .185, these locals have paid the price in court for drink or drug driving offences.

Chloe Elizabeth Spillane, 37, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor and obstructing police stemming from an incident on Anzac Day earlier this year.

The court heard police were called to the scene of a car crash on Louisa St and Channon St at about 7pm on April 25, and found a white Toyota vehicle with damage to the front and bonnet.

Spillane was found at the scene trying to jump-start the vehicle, appeared unsteady on her feet and had slurred speech when she told officer she was the owner and driver of the vehicle.

Spillane was sentenced to 18 months’ probation and 60 hours of community service, and banned from driving for 20 months.

Cody Steven Hazelgrove, 37, had methamphetamine and cannabis in his system when he was caught driving on Lawrence St on March 24.

Hazelgrove was fined $300 and banned from driving for one month.

Leroy James Brown, 38, blew .122 when he was pulled over on Inglewood Rd on July 16. Brown pleaded guilty to driving over the middle alcohol limit and was fined $600 with a six month driving ban.

Nicholas Carter Mcrorie, 29, blew .168 after he was found slumped against the driver side door of his car while asleep on July 10.

Because his engine was running, Carter Mcrorie pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and accepted an $800 fine with a six month driving ban. No conviction was recorded.

Rachel Elisabeth Cran, 23, caused a car crash at Amamoor when she crossed to the wrong side of the Mary Valley Rd on June 19.

Cran blew .185 and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, netting a $1000 fine and an eight month driving ban. No conviction was recorded.

Hayden John Crosby, 36, had meth in his system when he was caught driving on Brisbane Rd on April 22. He was fined $150 and banned from driving for a month, with no conviction recorded.

Liam Jye Kirstinfeldt, 23, had meth and cannabis residue in his saliva when he was pulled over on Perseverance St on April 15.

Pleading guilty from jail on other matters via videolink, Kirstinfeldt was sentences to one day in jail and disqualified from driving for a month.

Scott William Folland, 20, had cannabis residue in his saliva when he was busted driving in Dalby on May 28.

Folland was fined $150 and banned from driving for a month.

Jessica Stephanie Janssen, 19, blew .103 while driving on a provisional licence at Lawrence St on July 17.

Janssen was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for three months, with no conviction recorded.

Kevin Patrick Bourke, 41, had meth and cannabis residue in his saliva after being caught behind the wheel on a provisional licence at Southside on February 16. He also failed to appear in court on July 1.

Bourke was sentenced to a month’s jail suspended for 12 months, fined $150 and banned from driving for three months.

Nicholas James Hughes, 40, blew .108 after being caught driving at Gunalda on March 5.

Hughes was banned from driving for three months and fined $600, but was granted a restricted work licence for the duration of his suspension.

No conviction was recorded.
