There has been a positive update in the condition of a teenage boy who suffered horrific injuries after crashing his motorbike down an embankment at Gladstone last weekend.
On Tuesday the boy in his early teens was in a critical condition in Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, but on Friday a Children’s Health Queensland spokeswoman said the boy’s condition was now stable.
The boy suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, with emergency crews called to Red Rover Rd in the Gladstone suburb of Callemondah about 10am on Saturday.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman previously said the boy sustained a life-threatening head injury as well as limb injuries.
“He was taken under lights and sirens through to Gladstone Hospital (on Saturday),” the QAS spokeswoman said.
“He’s severely injured.”
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the crash happened in an “off road” dirt area and not on a bitumen road.
A QAS spokeswoman said the motorbike went down an embankment.
She said the boy was ultimately flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital by Royal Flying Doctor Service.
“He was flown with a doctor and a nurse (on board),” the QAS spokeswoman said.
It is not known who the boy was with at the time of the crash.
On Tuesday a police spokeswoman said the incident was still being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit.
