A warrant has been issued for a man facing multiple driving charges after his no-show in a Central Queensland court on Wednesday.

Jake Anthony McInerney, 34, who is facing four disqualified driving charges, was required to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

After Mr McInerney did not appear, solicitor Stephen White said the long plea could not proceed and he sought a three-week adjournment.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said the prosecution opposed an adjournment.

“This matter was listed by (Mr White’s) colleague for a long plea today - prosecutions are ready to proceed,” Ms Leach said.

“The defendant’s name was called at approximately 10.14am and (he) has not appeared.

“It’s my submission that a warrant be issued for the defendant to be brought before the court.”

Mr White said he could not assist the court in relation to Mr McInerney’s non-appearance.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan noted that Mr McInerney had appeared in the Gladstone court on June 4 where he was told that he must appear on July 3.

Mr White continued to press for an adjournment.

“I do submit Your Honour, that the fault may very well lie with counsel and not the defendant, and that a warrant should not be issued.”

Ms Buchanan said: “Well he (Mr McInerney) was here (in court) when it was listed for sentence, so... I’m going to issue a warrant.”

A bail act warrant was issued.
