A drug dealer who claimed he “helps his friends out” with cannabis has been sentenced.

Tristan Jesse Allen Cox, 27, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to charges including three counts of supplying dangerous drugs, and one count of possessing property suspected of being proceeds of a drug crime.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said on September 18, police executed a search warrant at Cox’s residence, and they seized his mobile phone.

Mr Boyd said police found text messages between Cox and others about supplying cannabis on three separate days in September.

During the search, police also seized $250 cash - the suspected proceeds of Cox’s drug crimes, the court heard.

Mr Boyd said when questioned by police about the text messages, Cox told them he “helps his friends out.”

The prosecutor said when Cox was asked what “a stick” meant, he told police it was $25 worth of cannabis.

The court heard Cox’s three-page criminal history did not contain prior offending of this sort.

A self-represented Cox told Magistrate Mary Buchanan that he was a single dad of three on a disability pension.

Ms Buchanan fined Cox $1000 and made a forfeiture order for the phone and the money.

Convictions were recorded.
