Jonathon James Dorante, 41

A Gladstone father returned a positive roadside drug test, a court heard.

Jonathon James Dorante, 41, pleaded guilty before Acting Magistrate Patrick Murphy to drug driving.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Tania Griffiths told the court Calliope police intercepted Dorante for a random breath test on Auckland Street, Gladstone at 7.38pm on November 19.

Dorante returned a positive roadside drug test and he was detained by police and taken to a police car for further testing and questioning.

Dorante told police he was not sure if he had taken any illicit drugs and could offer no emergency reason for driving that night.

A second drug test returned another positive indication for a relevant drug and he was issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Police laboratory tests revealed Dorante had marijuana in his saliva at the time of his interception.

Acting Magistrate Murphy convicted and fined Dorante $350 and suspended him from driving for one month. A conviction was recorded.

Mitchell Luke Breen, 18

New Year’s Eve beers were the undoing of a young Gladstone man who made the decision to drive his mate to a party before being intercepted by police.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Tania Griffiths told the court Breen was intercepted by police driving on Boyne Island Road, Boyne Island on December 31, around 11pm.

Police inspected the car, which had a hot engine and exhaust pipe meaning it had recently been driven.

The witness stated to police McTighe had been drink driving and played an audio recording of the journey on her mobile phone.

Police questioned McTighe who confirmed he had driven the car from Boles Street Lookout Point in West Gladstone back to the address.

McTighe also said he had been drinking alcohol throughout the day but had not consumed any further alcohol since arriving home only a few minutes before police arrived.
