Queensland Police Service data has revealed a spike in traffic offences compared to 2020 last year

The Queensland Police Service has published confronting statistics detailing the number of traffic offenders who have been caught on Capricornia roads in 2021.

The QPS data was published as part of a festive season road safety campaign, with fatal crashes and road incidents more prevalent throughout the aforementioned period.

Charges including drink driving over the middle but not high alcohol limit and driving under the influence were prevalent in the data set.

The overall number of traffic offences increased by a staggering 444 from January 1 to October 31 2020 and the same timeframe this year.

From that, driving while relevant drug is present in saliva or blood was up from 559 offences to 776.

Driving over middle alcohol limit but not high alcohol limit offence numbers also increased, with 320 committed in 2021 compared to 227 last year.

Driving while over no alcohol limit but not over general alcohol limit: 2020 - 82 offences 2021 - 77 offences

Driving particular motor vehicles while over no alcohol limit but not over general alcohol limit: 2020 - three offences 2021 - three offences

Driving animals and other things while under the influence: 2020 - five offences 2021 - four offences
