A young man has been arrested in NSW over his alleged involvement in a stabbing at Gladstone earlier this month.
Police had on Tuesday appealed for Matthew Defreitas, 23, to surrender himself and believed he may have been in Victoria.
On Wednesday morning however, Mr Defreitas was found about 8.40am at Newcastle and arrested by NSW detectives.
He will appear before the Newcastle Court where police are expected to request his extradition to Queensland on Thursday.
In a statement, Queensland Police Service thanked Victorian and New South Wales Police for their assistance.
Mr Defreitas is the second person to be arrested in relation to the alleged stabbing which police are treating as an attempted murder.
Police were first called to a Brisbane St property at Barney Point on August 3 about 11.40pm following reports of an altercation.
A 30-year-old Barney Point man was found at the property with multiple stab wounds and cuts.
He was transported to Gladstone Hospital in a critical condition before being flown to Brisbane and had since been released.
Kevin Douglas Anderson, also 30, was charged with one count of attempted murder earlier this month.
Mr Anderson appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court on August 9, where he was remanded in custody with his matter adjourned to October 3.
