A heartbroken Queensland family is enduring the loss of a beloved mum and her 13-year-old son as the father faces a huge medical battle and must now raise his two remaining sons without their mother and brother.

Tracey and Corey Craig were killed when their Nissan Navara was destroyed in a crash involving a truck at Raglan, between Gladstone and Rockhampton this week.

On Thursday evening, a GoFundMe page started by Alesha Gibson had already raised more than $26,000 towards a $15,000 target.

“We are heartbroken to share the devastating news of the tragic loss of Tracey and her son Corey, who were both taken from us in a car accident earlier this week,” the page reads.

“Losing a mother and her child is a pain no one should have to endure, and their family is struggling to cope with this sudden, heartbreaking loss.

“Tracey was an incredible mother, always full of love and dedication to her children.

“Corey, just 13, had so much life ahead of him, his smile could light up any room, and he brought happiness to everyone around him. “Their loss has left a hole that will never be filled.

The page also explains that Steven, Tracey’s partner who was critically injured in the crash, faced a long medical recovery while also caring for their two other sons Kai and Jayden.

“The family is in desperate need of support during this unimaginable time.

“This fund is set up to help cover funeral costs for Tracey and Corey, as well as to assist Steven in his recovery and provide for the two boys, who are facing so much at such a young age.”

Tributes flooded social media.

Charna Hill wrote: “Words can’t explain how to feel right now, my heart goes out to Steve, Jayden Kai and all of Tracey and Steve’s family such a tragedy.”

“Corey You were one of my favoutite little kids growing up always had a smile on your face all the memories of when you were a little baby, I hope you’re both up there running a muck.

“I hope you’re up there partying hard Tracey having a few rums and giving them so much grief. I’m still in shock, until we meet again.”

The Bundaberg 8 Ball Association shared the “horrible news” with their members,

“Their dad is in ICU fighting hard with a lot of surgeries ahead … also young Jayden was in the car.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to (the) Craig family and if you can help, there is a GoFundMe page.”

‘DEEPLY SADDENED’: SCHOOL COMMUNITY IN MOURNING

Guidance counsellors are being provided for devastated Calliope State High School pupils and staff as they mourn a student and a parent killed in a shocking accident.

A 13-year-old boy who attended the school and his 40-year-old mother died when the Nissan Navara they were travelling in was hit by a truck on the Bruce Highway at Raglan.

Police confirmed it was a mother, father, and their two sons in the vehicle.

Police allege the crash was the fault of a truck driver who failed to slow down.

A Department of Education spokesperson said the school community was “deeply saddened” by the death of the boy and his mother in the tragic road accident.

“Support is also being provided to students and staff, and guidance counsellors will remain at the school to provide support in any way they can and for as long as it is needed,” the spokesperson said.

“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman on Thursday said the family hailed from the rural town of Calliope in the Gladstone Region.

The mother, who was killed in the crash, was sitting in the passenger seat with the father was driving.

“This crash has torn one family apart and has traumatised numerous others,” Acting Inspector Ben Wiltshire said.

Investigators have spoken with the surviving father and son who were taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police earlier charged a 30-year-old truck driver.

Police will allege that shortly after 11pm, the white Nissan Navara was travelling south along the Bruce Highway when the Navara slowed down behind a Toyota HiLux due to a wide load.

A Prime mover truck allegedly failed to slow down and crashed into the Nissan Navara forcing it into the HiLux.

Two passengers in the Navara, the 40-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy sustained life-threatening injuries, died at the scene.

The 30-year-old driver of the Prime mover, from Kingston in the Logan area, has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm.

Samples have been taken from the driver of the semi-trailer, accused of being responsible for the crash, for drug and alcohol analysis.

He is due to appear before Gladstone Magistrates Court on December 9.

Acting Inspector Wiltshire said it is one of the worst years on the road the region has seen in years. with 22 lives lost on Capricornia District roads, nine more than last year.

Premier David Crisafulli admitted the state government must do more on the Bruce Highway, vowing a commitment to have an advisory body up and running by the end of the year is on track.

“Every time an incident like this happens on the Bruce it just sends regional communities into a real sense of despair, and our hopes and thoughts are with the families and with that community as well.”

The crash at Raglan in the Gladstone region closed the Bruce Highway for more than nine hours.

The crash happened near the intersection of Ragland Station Road when it struck the back of two utilities just after 11pm on Tuesday night.

The driver of the ute, a 42-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, who was a passenger, were taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger in the other ute sustained minor injuries.

A spokesman from the Queensland Ambulance Service said six patients had been assessed at the scene of the crash with the boy and the woman declared deceased at the scene Another teenage boy was taken in a stable condition to Rockhampton Hospital.

Another man had shoulder pain and a man in his 20s sustained back pain and was taken to Gladstone Hospital.

Another teenager sustained a minor head injury and was also transported to Gladstone Hospital. One male was uninjured and did not require transport to hospital.

The Bruce Highway reopened some time after 8.40am but there is still heavy traffic heading north.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstance of the crash. Investigations are continuing.

Many on social media were again calling for the highway to be upgraded, while others said drivers needed to slow down and there needed to be a greater police presence on our roads.

Fay Mccamley was among those calling for action again after the latest double fatality at Raglan.

“When will this highway receive the most urgent attention needed. Too many lives destroyed and so many people affected,’’ she posted.

Others pointed out it was tragic so close to Christmas.

Kelly Ann wrote: “When will enough be enough for this on the highways. Our government needs to make out highway safer and more lighting along it could help possibly prevent these tragedies.

Jeremy Hunt suggested authorities could easily use satellites to monitor the highway showing where "black spots" are.

“This is the worst two years I've heard living in Yeppoon everyday of late,

“Get some patrol cars on the road all day everyday, presence is everything.

Willow Harriet Kathren said: “I drive this road constantly and have done for years. The highway is at the point now where it should be deemed undriveable. They aren’t even repairing the damaged areas. “
