Queensland 'still a structural problem' for Labor

An 82-year-old man has died after his vehicle left the roadway and rolled at Mount Tom, south of Gladstone on Friday morning.

Fingerboard Rd remained closed in both directions for more than seven hours following the fatal crash as emergency services responded to incident about 7.30am.

Initial investigations indicate the utility was travelling along Fingerboard Road, near Hallorans Road, before it left the roadway and rolled.

Paramedics treated the man, and sole occupant of the vehicle, after he sustained critical injuries before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

It follows two fatal crashes in the Capricornia region in the past 24 hours.

Mount Tom is about one hour south of Gladstone’s CBD and is a busy stretch of road which connects the region to tourism hotspots Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Police urged motorists to avoid the area as the road remains closed for a large portion of Friday, with lengthy delays expected.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling in the vicinity at the time and has dashcam vision or witnessed the crash to contact police.
