A patient who created a disturbance at Gladstone Hospital, becoming aggressive towards security staff and police, has faced court to get his punishment.

Christopher John Poole, 49, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 21 to public nuisance and obstructing police.

The court heard Poole’s offending related to two incidents - the first of which occurred at his Kin Kora residence on the night of February 1.

The prosecution said Poole told police officers to “f--- off” and he said to them: “Don’t come in here and detain me because I’m going to push you back.”

The court was told Poole put an arm against the wall and stared at police.

He was told twice to “step back” but instead he started leaning in towards police.

Poole was arrested and taken to the Gladstone Watch-house where he was charged with obstructing police and later released.

The second incident happened several hours later, about 12.15am on February 2.

The prosecution said Poole was a patient at Gladstone Hospital where he made multiple threats to security staff and police.

It said a heavily intoxicated Poole made “multiple punching motions” towards security staff and told them: “If I want to leave, none of you c---s can stop me.”

Poole continued to aggressively swear at both police and security, causing other patients distress, before he was sedated by hospital staff.

The court was told Poole had no criminal history.

Solicitor Jun Pepito said Poole had been drinking on the day of the incident and his partner had health issues which had been stressful for him.

Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Poole $500 for both offences and no conviction was recorded.
