A labourer charged with drug and property offences has made a successful bid for bail in a Gladstone court.

Matthew John Munns, 26, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 20 where his bail application was heard.

Mr Munns was charged with five offences including two counts of unlawful entry of vehicle.

The prosecution opposed bail and its submission was not heard by the court, but it was tendered to Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan.

Mr Munns’ solicitor Bianca Wieland said there was “a distinct lack of” breach of bail offences on her client’s history, and only two “dated” fail to appear offences.

Ms Wieland said Mr Munns was born and raised in Gladstone and had recently obtained full-time employment as a labourer, working six days a week, and was living with his mother at Boyne Island.

Ms Wieland said her client would plead to “most of the offences” but two would be contested.

Ms Buchanan noted Mr Munns was not in a show cause position, had limited history of failing to appear, and had a good employment history as a labourer.

Ms Buchanan also noted Mr Munns had been honest with Ms Wieland about his “relapse” of using methamphetamine.

Ms Buchanan granted Mr Munns bail with conditions including a 7pm to 4am curfew.

Mr Munns is also required to report to police once a week and he has to reside with his mum at Boyne Island.

His matters were adjourned to a later date.
