A Gladstone mother has been given a jail sentence after she brazenly stole from Big W while on two suspended sentences.

Brianna Tilley, 26, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 5 to stealing.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said on January 10, Tilley was at a Gladstone Big W store when she selected 11 USB cards and put them in her basket.

Ms Leach said Tilley then went to the kids area where she appeared under a camera but the USB cards were not in her basket.

The court heard Tilley purchased a $3 singlet and a $1 chocolate before leaving the store without paying for the USB cards worth $539.

It was told that when questioned by police, Tilley made full admissions to the stealing offence and said she needed the USB cards to get a job.

The court heard Tilley had a four-page criminal history which included property, dishonesty and drug offences and at the time of committing this offence, she was on two suspended sentences.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said Tilley was a mother who had engaged with rehabilitation through Alcohol and Other Drugs Service.

Ms Wieland said Tilley was also medicated for anxiety and depression.

Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Tilley to one month jail wholly suspended for an operational period of nine months.

For the breaches of the suspended sentences, Ms Buchanan extended one of them by five months and she took no action in relation to the other.

Tilley was ordered to pay $539 restitution and convictions were recorded.
