A 29-year-old Benaraby man died overnight after he was struck by a truck travelling on a major road near Gladstone.

The man, a pedestrian, died at the scene after he was struck by a truck travelling on Gladstone Benaraby Rd at Wurdong Heights about 2.20am Monday.

The truck driver, a 41-year-old man, immediately stopped the vehicle and called emergency services, however the Benaraby man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood diversions were in place on the highway as a result of the crash.

Police are now appealing for public assistance in relation to the fatal traffic crash.

Anyone who was travelling along Gladstone Benaraby Rd from about 2am are urged to contact them.

It is the second serious incident involving pedestrians being struck by vehicles in Central Queensland recently, with a man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Blackwater at the weekend.
