Out-of-control car slams into Brisbane pedestrians

A Blackwater man has been charged over a serious crash in Blackwater that left a man in a coma at the weekend.

Blackwater detectives have charged a 43-year-old local man with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance after he allegedly struck a pedestrian on Turpentine Road on Sunday morning.

The pedestrian, a 48-year-old Woodford man, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car about 2.15am.

A spokesman for Queensland Ambulance Service said the man suffered arm, chest, and leg injuries as a result and was transported to Blackwater Hospital for treatment in a serious condition.

He has since been airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Police say initial investigations indicate the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene and continue to appeal for anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage in the area at the time to contact police.

The Blackwater man charged is expected to re-appear before the Blackwater Magistrates Court on October 14.
