Gladstone, Emerald police press charges after string of alleged crimes

Children as young as 14 are among those charged by police in the latest crackdown on crime across Central Queensland, with daring break and enters, drug offences and violence among the crimes reported.

Police have continued their crackdown on crime across Central Queensland, with a number of people charged over incidents in Gladstone and Emerald.

One of the arrests included a trio of juveniles in Emerald.

From assaults, drug offences and dangerous driving, these are just some of the charges alleged offenders are facing.

Dangerous operation of a vehicle, South Gladstone

A 53-year-old man from Everton Park will face court next month after being charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle.

It will be alleged the man was erratically driving a blue Toyota Corolla from the Gladstone Hospital about 11.30pm on February 5.

Police say the man drove through red lights, was braking suddenly and swerved toward trees.

It will be further alleged he drove along Toolooa St roadworks on the wrong side of the road.

Police searched the man and his vehicle and allegedly found a machete next to the driver’s seat.

He was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected, driving under the influence, and possessing a knife in public.

He was granted bail and is set to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 14.

Assault, Kin Kora

Police charged a 74-year-old man with assault after a disturbance at Kin Kora on February 1.

It’s alleged the Kirkwood man went to a Philip St business about 1pm where he became argumentative, yelling and swearing at staff.

The man was asked to leave and allegedly responded by spitting at a 47-year-old Kirkwood woman working at the business.

The man was charged with one count of common assault and one count of public nuisance.

He was granted bail and is set to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 28.

Stealing, Clinton

Police charged a 37-year-old Clinton man with a number of offences following a vehicle intercept on Tuesday.

Officers intercepted a white Holden Commodore on Morrison St just after 1am, with a subsequent search uncovering copper and a number of tools including wire cutters, tin snips and a pry bar.

The man was charged with possessing an instrument of house breaking at night, stealing, and driving while disqualified by court order.

The man was issued a notice to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 20.

Stealing and drug offences, Gladstone

A 23-year-old West Gladstone woman has been charged with stealing a CCTV camera from a Clinton store on January 28.

It is alleged the woman went to a business on Dawson Highway and put the camera and a number of tools into her bag before abusing staff and pushing past them as she left.

Police says the woman was also found at a West Gladstone property two weeks later, where she allegedly had a small amount of a crystal substance in her bag.

The woman was also found with two other people on February 11, where police allege they watched a man dispose of a crystal substance in a bag. A search by police also uncovered a flick knife, and glass pipes.
The woman was charged with possessing utensils, and the 39-year-old man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing utensil.

The woman is due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on March 13 and the man is scheduled to appear on February 28.

Break and enter, Emerald

About 9.35pm on February 11 three boys allegedly broke into a motorbike repair shop in Emerald.

It is alleged one boy started a motorbike and drove it at a metal gate in an attempt to steal the vehicle.

A 14-year-old Emerald boy was charged with one count of enter premises to commit indictable offence, two of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one of wilful damage. He is due to appear in Emerald Children’s Court.

Another 14-year-old Emerald boy has been charged with enter premises to commit indictable offence and will also appear in Emerald Children’s Court.

A third boy, a 15-year-old Emerald boy, has been dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
