In a recent tour of Gladstone’s new social services hub, Opposition leader Anthony Albanese said Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett knew how to deliver for the region.
Mr Albanese was shown around the Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct, set to open in September 2021, during a visit last week and said it was an amazing project.
“It will bring together providers in childcare, health care, disability services and community groups all in the one location,” he said.
“Matt Burnett knows how to deliver for Gladstone. I am looking forward to having Matt represent the people of Flynn in our nation’s parliament after the next election.”
Mayor and Labor Candidate for Flynn Mr Burnett said the The Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct had been designed to strengthen Gladstone’s community and social service sector.
“We are doing so by clustering people and organisations together in one location,” he said.
“The precinct offers a unique opportunity for service providers, organisations, and community groups to move beyond co-location to collaboration where organisations based at the precinct will plan and evaluate together working towards shared goals.
“This unique operating model will create opportunities for community connection, wellbeing and lifelong learning.
“The Salvation Army Gladstone, Gladstone Regional Council’s Engagement and Partnerships Team, Gladstone’s Neighbourhood Centre and GAPDL Communities for Children will be based at the precinct.
“Community groups and services will have the opportunity to hire meeting rooms and office spaces.”
Mr Burnett said the next step on the journey was to work with the private sector, not-for-profits and both levels of government to build a retirement village and aged care facility on the site adjacent to Dave Burns Drive.
The Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct has been funded by the Australian Government’s Regional Jobs and Investment Packages, Gladstone Regional Council and the Gladstone Foundation, in partnership with The Salvation Army.
