A disqualified driver who allegedly crashed a vehicle while speeding and then fled the scene near Calliope will face court next month.

Last week, police received multiple calls in relation to a gold Toyota Aurion allegedly exceeding the speed limit before it lost control and crashed on the Bruce Highway.

Police allege that on September 8 about 12.30pm, a 27-year-old Mansfield man, who was the driver of the Toyota, crashed and then fled the scene before he was located by officers at the nearby Calliope Central Shopping Centre.

It comes as another driver was charged this week following a near miss while allegedly attempting to evade police on the Bruce Hwy near Mount Larcom.

The Mansfield man was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of driving a motor vehicle while disqualified and one count of possess property suspected to be proceeds of an offence under the drugs misuse act.

He was granted bail and is set to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on October 4.
