A man whom it was feared would die from horrific injuries sustained in a pub brawl has seen a miraculous improvement in his condition.

Mike Katui, 26, suffered life-threatening injuries at the Gatton Royal Hotel on September 3, when he was allegedly attacked by two men, Michael Numdi and John Moses.

It left the Gatton picker clinging to life in the Princess Alexandra Hospital following the alleged assault, with the Toowoomba Magistrates Court hearing the family were meeting with doctors on Monday to discuss his deteriorating health.

Police believed the injuries to his head could claim his life.

But a spokeswoman from the PA Hospital revealed on Monday afternoon Mr Katui’s condition was now stable.

The two men charged were known to Mr Katui, as they worked at Lockyer Valley farms picking produce.

The case was mentioned before court for a second time on September 8, five days after the incident, where it was again adjourned in anticipation the charges against the alleged attackers would change.

Mike Katui, 26, may die after sustaining a serious head injury during an alleged assault at Gatton.

Mr Numdi, 49, and Mr Moses, 31, were charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm.

On Friday, Solicitor Alysha Jacobsen asked the court to adjourn Mr Moses’s case to the following week.

“It’s a situation where we are still waiting on the ultimate outcome of the victim who is currently in hospital,” she said.

“I understand that there will be further discussions over the weekend … and that will impact as to whether a bail application can be made.”

Police prosecutor Natalie Bugden said Mr Katui’s health was deteriorating.

“The arresting officers indicated (doctors) are gradually reducing the (alleged victim’s) medication, however he still has not woken up and is completely non-responsive,” she said.

“I was advised there would likely be a family meeting with doctors Monday afternoon.”

She also informed the court the alleged assault was captured on CCTV and police would work to make the footage available to the men’s legal teams.

Solicitor Brad Skuse said he spoke with his client, Mr Numdi, about Mr Katui’s health condition, however he sought a longer adjournment than the co-accused.

“I’m seeking a three week adjournment with no bail application,” the Skuse Graham Criminal Lawyers managing director said.

Mr Numdi’s case will next be mentioned on September 29, and Mr Moses on September 5.

As of Friday, September 8, Mr Moses was charged with common assault and assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Mr Numdi 49, was charged with two counts of common assault and one charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm, and assault causing grievous bodily harm while armed in company.
