Last chance for finals as cricketers head into T20 weekend

After a summer washout delayed the season, the winner of today's round of T20 cricket will head straight to the finals next week

CRICKET: IT WILL be make or break for the Fraser Coast's cricket teams this weekend.

After a summer washout delayed the season, the winner of today's round of T20 cricket will head straight to the finals next week.

The situation means every ball will count and there is an even chance for the Bushrangers, Cavaliers, Australs and Past Grammars to claim the trophy.

Bushrangers captain Jesse Riley said it had already been a challenging season with the combined Fraser Coast cricket season including teams from Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

The team will play Past Grammars at noon and Cavaliers at 3pm.

"We're confident about this competition, but we just have to get out there, have a swing and get those runs on the board,” Riley said.

"Everyone is keen to do well and get their name first on the trophy.”

Riley said the team's T20 superstar Josh Lenton would open the batting, but the team would would have to go without star batsmen Brent Dean and Nic Kelsey.

Past Grammars were previously tipped for the finals after romping the Bushrangers with a 70-run win in November 2018.

For the Cavaliers, player John Kosmidis said the team would eye every opportunity to get into the finals ahead of their matches against Australs (noon) and Past Grammars (3pm).

"It will come down to one or two games, with second and third going into the semi-finals,” he said.

All games will be played at the Keith Dunne and Allan Embry Ovals in Hervey bay.
