A second case of Covid has been confirmed on the Fraser Coast.

A second person has tested positive to Covid on the Fraser Coast.

The case is linked to the young man who tested positive in Hervey Bay on Wednesday.

The first patient, understood to be a young male soldier, was linked to a New South Wales cluster, travelling from Brisbane to the Fraser Coast via vehicle and self-isolating at a private property upon arrival.

According to the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service, the person who tested positive on Thursday travelled in the same vehicle as Wednesday’s case.

It is understood the young soldier travelled to Brisbane from Newcastle and was part of the region’s nightclub cluster.

The man is understood to have driven straight from the airport to family in Hervey Bay.

Family members who have been exposed were placed in hotel quarantine, the Fraser Coast Chronicle understands, while the man has been taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment.

The second patient was to be transferred to hospital for treatment and isolation purposes.

There was not believed be a significant health risk as a result of either case based on investigations by health authorities.

Also on Wednesday, a Maryborough factory employee was forced to self-isolate and undergo a Covid test after being exposed to the virus on a flight.

The Downer train factory employee was on board a flight on Monday that has since been listed as an exposure site by the Queensland Government, a statement from the company said.

“The employee attended Downer’s Maryborough Service Delivery Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, but left the site immediately after learning they had attended an exposure site.

“The employee has undergone a Covid-19 test and is currently isolating.

“In accordance with Queensland Government regulations, the Maryborough facility currently remains open.”

The employee returned a negative Covid test on Thursday.

People were still being encouraged to get tested if they had symptoms, no matter how mild.

Queensland chief health officer Dr John Gerrard said it was expected more positive cases would arise after the opening of the border earlier this week.
