A Hervey Bay teenager has fronted Children’s Court over a stealing spree that involved almost $2000 worth of alcohol in 2024.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to four counts of stealing and was sentenced to 40 hours community service.

The court heard that on July 27, 2024, the teen went to the Urangan BWS and pulled two bottles of Jack Daniel’s Whiskey off a shelf before selecting a bottle of Hennessy Cognac, accumulatively valued at $228, and left without paying.

He then returned to the same BWS on August 10, 2024 with an associate, put some Jack Daniel’s and Smirnoff vodka worth $1460 in carry bags, and again left without paying, bringing the total of things stolen to $1688.

The amount of alcohol stolen on the second trip was valued at $1460, taking the total score to $1688.

The court heard that four days later, on August 14, he chopped a piece of hose at the Pialba Big W worth $12, and again left without paying.

Finally, he and an adult on a mobility scooter lifted about $50 worth of ham and prawns from the Urangan Woolworths on November 25, by hiding them on the scooter.

The teen was on probation at the time of his third offence, as he appeared in the Hervey Bay Children’s Court hours before stealing the piece of hose from Big W Urangan.

Defence lawyer Daniel Ould of Law Essentials agreed with the prosecution and said a probation order or community service would be appropriate punishments.

He was sentenced to 40 hours of unpaid community service with no conviction recorded.
