Investigations are continuing into a crash that left a motorcyclist with critical leg injuries at Burrum River this week.
It comes after a police officer who attended the horror scene pleaded with people to concentrate on the road and think of the fatal five.
“It seems way too often these motorcycles are involved in crashes and a lot of times it’s not their fault,” Snr Const Patrick Bennett said.
A man in his 30s was airlifted with critical leg injuries following a crash at the corner of Gillies Rd and Pialba Burrum Heads Rd, northwest of Hervey Bay on Wednesday.
The crash involving a car and a motorbike happened about 12.30pm.
On Saturday a spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said police were continuing to investigate the crash.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue said it was believed the motorbike collided with a car.
The critically injured man was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with a “significant leg injury” and it’s understood he was at risk of amputation.
He was then flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
“The aeromedical crew worked with Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics to treat the patient on the scene for severe lower limb injuries,” a LifeFlight spokesperson said.
A female patient was assessed at the scene by ambulance officers and taken by road to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition, the QAS spokesperson said.
Senior Constable Bennett said a vehicle was travelling westbound of Pialba Burrum Heads Rd and a motorbike was travelling eastbound when the incident occurred.
“For unknown reasons the vehicle has crossed over to the eastbound lane and sideswiped the motorcyclist, resulting in him coming off and sustaining serious injuries,” he said.
A QPS spokesman said the location of the incident was within 10km of the fatal crash on the same road on February 2 in which 60-year-old man Apple Tree Creek man David Potter was killed.
