A disgraced Donut King worker, who stole thousands from the shopping centre store where she worked, has been sentenced in court where details of how she ripped her employer off were revealed.

A Granville woman, who stole from the Donut King she worked at has been sentenced for theft and ordered to pay back almost $5000.

Jessica Tahlay Brooke McMaster, 21, pleaded guilty in Maryborough Magistrates Court this week to stealing by a clerk or servant.

The court heard McMaster stole from the business on five separate occasions up until her dismissal in October 2022.

Working closing shifts at Donut King, McMaster was able to steal the money by accessing the tills containing the day’s cash sales as well as the safe within the store.

Once questioned by police, McMaster admitted to stealing but said she did it not for personal indulgence, but instead to pay for rent, food and clothing.

Her lawyer said “my client is still a young person with no prior history” and is “very remorseful” for what she had done.

He also said his client had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety but had not been receiving treatment at the time of the offence.

Magistrate John Milburn said while McMaster stole because of “a need to do so” she ultimately was “to blame for the offence” and he needed to “denounce” her actions.

He ordered McMaster to pay $4785.66 in compensation, placed her on probation for 15 months and sentenced her to 100 hours of community service.

As McMaster was unable to pay the compensation upfront, the debt was referred to SPER for collection

Convictions were recorded.
