The woman killed in a horror crash allegedly involving a stolen vehicle has been identified as a nurse, wife and mother, as her devastated family was left reeling in the wake of the tragedy.

Christine Lyness, 39, a mum of two and much-loved wife and nurse, has been named as the woman who was killed in the tragic crash on Sunday night.

Police are alleging a 25-year-old man had been speeding and under the influence of drugs when he dangerously drove a ttolen car, causing the death following the crash that killed Ms Lyness on the Fraser Coast overnight.

On Monday, her husband Andrew Lyness remembered his wife as a “gorgeous, caring soul” and a loving mum.

Speaking to 7NEWS, he said the rest of their lives were starting to take shape before she died.

Detective Inspector Wade Lee spoke on Monday and called the incident a “tragic set of circumstances” where the two vehicles struck “head on” about 10.15pm Sunday night.

“Up until this incident, Queensland was a fatality free state on the roads this Easter period,” Inspector Lee said, describing the woman as “a nurse, a mother, a wife”.

“The incident has devastated that family and the broader parts of our community.

“It was a horrific scene … both vehicles have substantial damage on the driver’s side.”

Inspector Lee confirmed police are alleging one of the vehicles was stolen.

It is alleged a Ford Escape crossed to the wrong side of the road and struck a Mitsubishi Mirage on Booral Rd at Sunshine Acres, between Condor and Moorabinda drives, and the sole occupant of the Mitsubishi, a 39-year-old woman, died at the scene.

“We’re conducting enquiries that are in the preliminary stage at the moment, but the vehicle appears to have been stolen from an address in Pialba, Hervey Bay,” Inspector Lee said.

Police alleged the driver of the Ford Escape was the only occupant of that vehicle.

He was arrested before being taken to Hervey Bay Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he remained as of Monday afternoon.

Police allege the vehicle had been stolen from outside a charity organisation at Pialba sometime after March 28.

“Incidents like this can be stopped, it is preventable,” Inspector Lee said.

“If I could ask anyone travelling on our roads this Easter to be patient, there is a lot of traffic on the roads … we have the balance of the school holidays to get through.”

The man, from Morayfield, has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance while excessively speeding, stealing, possessing dangerous drugs, and wearing of approved seatbelts by drivers, and two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and driving unlicensed.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Inspector Lee confirmed the man was known to police and bail would be objected.

Anyone who saw the Ford travelling in the Fraser Coast area prior to the crash to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with relevant vision are also urged to contact police.
