The husband of a nurse and mother who was killed in a crash allegedly involving a stolen car has spoken out about his family’s anger and heartbreak in the wake of her death.

Andrew Lyness said his wife Christine, with whom he shared two children, had loved life and loved her family and friends dearly.

“She was very proud of our children and worked hard to raise them into the strong, caring people they are today,” Mr Lyness said.

“She loved spending time with people. She was strong when others couldn’t be.”

Mr Lyness said his wife had been his biggest supporter after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

“Her dedication and love helped me be strong again after my MS diagnosis and the mental health issues it brought with it.

“She loved the life we were building in our new home, she planted the tropical fruit orchard she dreamt of, loved her orchids and flowers.

“Much more than just a beautiful soul.”

Mr Lyness said Christine had been a care assistant and personal care worker, working mostly night shifts, for six years.

On the night of the crash, she was on her way to her job for Ozcare, where she had worked full-time time for a year.

“Before this she worked for Estia for five years,” he said.

“Helping others was natural to Christine and she had the strength to deliver the care, empathy and support her elderly clients needed, so yes this was a passion for her.

“We are all so proud of her dedication and hard work, not only for those in her care, but she supported our family when I no longer could.

“Her colleagues and close friends at both workplaces have been so supportive of me and our children, as have the Ozcare management.”

Mr Lyness said he and his children had struggled in the wake of Christine’s death.

“The children and I are absolutely devastated, angry, heartbroken and exhausted.

“We are strong and caring like their mother made us, we will get through this with time.”

Mr Lyness said he had “no idea” what should change when it came to fatal crashes that allegedly involved stolen cars.

Mr Lyness said members of the Sunshine Acres community were working on a roadside memorial for Christine; a beautiful slab of timber with an engraving.

A 25-year-old Morayfield man has faced court charged over the crash.

Jayden Lindsay Ainslie’s matter was mentioned in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court in early April.

He was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance while excessively speeding, stealing, possessing dangerous drugs, not wearing an approved seatbelt, and two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and unlicensed driving.

Mr Ainslie did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on June 6.
