A 34-year-0ld Monto man has been charged with more than a dozen offences after a late night crime spree that included allegedly biting a female police officer and hitting her with a ute.
Police said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon Maryborough detectives charged the man after the alleged Tuesday night spree, which spanned the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions.
They said Childers police had been searching for a blue dual cab ute which had evaded them earlier when they received reports of a “man armed with a metal pole was attempting to break into a prime mover in Sanctuary Court at around 9.30pm”.
Police said they found the man in the cabin of the truck and, when he saw the offices, he got out of the vehicle and back into the ute.
“He was aggressive and struggled with police as they tried to arrest and remove him from the vehicle, biting one officer and causing a minor laceration to her arm,” police said.
The two officer tried to taser him but this proved “ineffective”.
He then allegedly reversed the ute into the parked police car, hitting the officer he had previously bitten in the arm, and sped away, police said.
“She sustained no further injury and the police vehicle sustained minor damage to the front passenger side mirror,” police said in the statement.
Members of the public then made multiple calls to police about the “manner of driving and movements of the dual cab as it travelled south along the Bruce Highway”.
Police chased the vehicle, which allegedly came to a stop at Aldershot shortly before midnight after it sustained damage to its wheels and tyres.
The man was then arrested and denied bail.
He is scheduled to appear in Maryborough Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 29.
He is charged with two counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and serious assault police, one count each of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a knife, unlawful possession of explosives (ammunition), evading police, failing to provide a specimen of saliva or blood for testing, contravene a police direction, and three counts of unlicensed driving.
