Just weeks after opening Maryborough’s SplashSide water park has been temporarily closed to sort ongoing problems with a slippery surface.
Fraser Coast councillor Paul Truscott said on his Facebook page on Friday, the park would close from 1pm on Friday for additional works to be carried out.
“SplashSide has been a huge success overall since it opened in June, but as with any new facility being opened, there can be teething issues,” Cr Truscott said.
“A concern that has been raised regularly by members of the public is the slippery nature of some of the surfaces throughout the area.
“This has been a concern to councillors also and we have raised these concerns with council to be addressed.”
Cr Truscott said while it was unfortunate the facility had to be closed, it was necessary to get the issue resolved.
“It is expected that the closure will last for approximately five weeks, weather permitting, as the work requires suitable weather conditions for application and curing,” he said.
“Personally, I don’t like that this has to happen anymore than the next person.
“But I also don’t like to hear about kids slipping and hurting themselves either.
“Of course, any facility with kids running around on water and having fun is going to have some level of slipping, the consistency of slipping concerns here, in my opinion, was too high.
“I sincerely hope that this does resolve the issues and that when the park reopens the kids can have an awesome time again – and the weather will be much warmer too.
“Thanks for your patience during this time everyone.”
The water park has been a huge success since it officially opened in June.
