The grand opening of Maryborough’s new water park, SplashSide, is set to be held on Saturday.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor George Seymour said work on the facility was complete and “it’s time to play”.

The water park has been built in Anzac Park, where the public is invited to head with their togs on Saturday to check it out.

“To mark the opening, council has organised a small community celebration and ribbon cutting on Saturday,” Mr Seymour said.

“SpashSide will be open from noon for families to try out, and then at 1pm the Assistant Minister Local Government, Nikki Boyd, and the State Member for Maryborough, Bruce Saunders will join me to officially open the facility.

“Anzac Park is already a popular outdoor space in Maryborough, and SplashSide is set to make it an even more attractive place for residents and visitors.”

Access to the Anzac Park carpark will be restricted to disabled parking to enable food stalls and a children’s activity area to be set up.

Extra carparking space will be available in Queens St.

The new facility includes a range of features such as sensory wall, inclusive orbit element, a spoonful of sugar discharge bucket, a trampoline, waterfall, crystal fountains and a hammock.

Other features include stream jets, a roller slide, cosmic cannons, spray jets, sugar cane spray poles, a new shelter with a barbecue, and improved amenities.

The SplashSide Water Play and All-Abilities Playground is a joint initiative of the Fraser Coast Regional Council and the Queensland Government, which provided $3m through the Covid-19 Works for Queensland program to ensure the project could be completed all at once, rather than in stages.

“Council is keen to ensure we have a healthy and active community here on the Fraser Coast and facilities like SplashSide help us to achieve that outcome,” Mr Seymour said.

“We can’t wait to see the smiles on the faces of families enjoying what will be a fabulous facility for generations to come.”
