A huge $70m development in the Hervey Bay city centre is “progressing to plan” and expected to open in mid-2023.
The Spotlight and Anaconda development is quickly taking shape on Boat Harbour Drive, Pialba, not far from the new Bunnings store on Main and Mcliver Streets.
Spotlight Group executive deputy chairman Zac Fried said the development was “progressing to plan”, aside from a few delays due to weather.
He revealed the total cost of the project was $70 million.
The craft and hobby mega chain recently quashed rumours a Hooters restaurant was opening after a Facebook page announced the American restaurant was arriving in the seaside city in 2023.
The Spotlight and Anaconda precinct, built by SPG Developments, will be constructed in two stages.
The 3ha site will also be home to the region’s first Anaconda store.
The first stage, which will front Boat Harbour Drive and Hunter Street, will include a showroom, food outlet and shops.
Stage two, on Boat Harbour Drive and Taylor Street, will have a gym, retail shops, another showroom and a takeaway food outlet.
There will be nearly 450 carparking spaces for customers and staff, which will be split across two levels, and traffic will be able to enter from Hunter and Taylor Streets.
In March 2021, soil testing was carried out on the land, which had been owned by Bunnings since 2010.
Mr Fried said the Spotlight and Anaconda development was expected to open in Hervey Bay in mid-2023.
