Spotlight Group confirms Hooters not opening at Hervey Bay development

The retail group behind a $70m development in Hervey Bay has quashed rumours that a Hooters restaurant will be opening at the precinct in 2023.
The Spotlight Group, the developer behind the Spotlight and Anaconda project on Boat Harbour Dr at Pialba, has confirmed that the American restaurant is not opening at the precinct in March 2023.
Speculation that Hooters was coming to the seaside city caused quite the stir on social media when a Hooters Hervey Bay Facebook page was created in December.
Hervey Bay residents took to social media, questioning whether the rumours were true.
“Surely not,” a comment said.
“I still call b-------,” another comment read.
On December 12, a post on the Facebook page said that the announcement was “genuine”.
“Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome Hervey Bay, Queensland...” the post read.
“For those questioning if this is genuine, yes it is.
“We are a husband and wife team that ran a Hooters franchise in Rivergate Tennessee for close to 7 years before relocating over here.”
Comments have also been shared on the verified Hooters Facebook page asking the American restaurant chain to report the profile.
“You need to report the fake profile. Claiming to open a store in Hervey Bay QLD and with a generic gmail address for contact,” a comment read.
Works are currently underway at the massive Spotlight and Anaconda development on Boat Harbour Drive in Hervey Bay, which will open in mid 2023.
The first stage will include a showroom, shops and a food outlet, while the second stage will have a gym, another showroom, more shops and a takeaway outlet.
