A young girl who only recently was struggling to believe in herself has had the Hervey Bay community rally around her to help raise more than $2000.

Yarilee State School student Lacey Geysing, 8, known now locally as “little Lacey”, has autism and ADHD and has suffered with anxiety and low self-esteem.

“A few weeks ago, Lacey came home upset, calling herself worthless and weak. That broke my heart,” her mother, Kayrelle said.

Kayrelle said that began to change after older sister Emma posted one of Lacey’s drawings on a Facebook group which received more than 100 positive comments.

“Lacey then came to me and said ‘mummy, I want to achieve something for me’,” Kayrelle said.

Lacey signed up to participate in her schools’ fun run to raise money for school resources.

The fundraiser, which started on March 2, has already raised $2037, reaching more than the $2000 goal.

“Her eyes light up every time someone donates, ” Kayrelle said.

For Kayrelle, the fundraiser is a way to show Lacey how much people believe in her, in the hopes to instil her with the confidence to see the beautiful bright girl that everyone else sees.

Kayrelle has been astonished by the range of support they have received from not only the Hervey Bay community, but by people across australia.

“We’ve even had a geologist all the way from Western Australia reach out and donate,” she said.

Her school’s fun run is on this Friday, March 31, and the fundraiser is set to finish on April 28.

Lacey’s fundraiser is accessible through the Australian school’s and club fundraising association.

Lacey is so thankful for the donations and is determined to “run run run fast”, and most importantly have fun at the Fun Run, this Friday.
