The Fraser Coast has recorded 55 new cases of Covid-19 taking the total to 2109, with eight people being cared for in hospital and one in intensive care.
New data has also revealed where most cases are occurring within the region; with Torquay/Scarness/ Kawungan recording the highest number of cases, with 356 cases, Pialba/Eli Waters recording 346, Urangan/Wondunna 336 and Maryborough recording 273 since December 13, 2021.
Across Queensland, 9974 new cases were recorded, sending the state total number of active cases to 379,793.
In the Wide Bay, 159 newly-confirmed positive cases took the total to 5201 since December 13, 2021.
Of that, 21 positive patients were in Wide Bay hospitals, including two in intensive care, and more being cared for through other health providers, a Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service spokesperson said.
Of this, eight are being cared for in Hervey Bay Hospital, including one in intensive care. The remainder are being cared for at Bundaberg Hospital.
“Sadly, Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service can confirm there was a COVID-19 related death in the region earlier this month.
“We extend our sincere condolences to this person’s family and friends. To respect patient confidentiality, we’re unable to provide detailed information on individual cases and deaths,” the spokesperson said.
“COVID-19 is widespread in our community which is why it is vital to reduce your risk when out in the community by wearing your mask, maintaining social distancing, performing regular hand hygiene, monitoring for symptoms and getting tested if you develop any symptoms.”
The use of self-administered Rapid Antigen Tests combined with the number of asymptomatic people, meant the numbers did not show the full picture of how many cases were in the community, the spokesperson said.
