Firefighters called to Howard blaze

Firefighters have rushed to a Fraser Coast industrial site after reports of a debris blaze that is causing large amounts of smoke in the area.

Multiple fire crews have been called to a Fraser Coast waste transfer centre to fight a blaze that has broken out.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said crews were called to the fire at the Howard facility on Power House Rd about 2.50pm today, May 30.

The spokesperson said debris was on fire.

Crews have brought the fire under control and there is no threat to properties.

A large amount of smoke is impacting surrounding suburbs including the Howard township and Pacific Haven.

A fire spokesperson said Burrum Town could also be impacted by smoke later this evening.

Those affected should keep their windows and doors closed and if required, keep respiratory medications close by.
