Scout jamboree to bring $15 million boost to Maryborough

The 26th Australian Scout Jamboree has been announced with 2025 host city Maryborough expected to gain widespread economic benefits.

In just two short years, Maryborough will play host to the largest gathering of scouts in Australia with the event projected to boost the region by $15 million.

A Scouts Queensland spokesman has revealed Maryborough will host the 26th annual Australian Jamboree from January 6 to the 15, 2025.

The event is expected to attract over 10,000 scouts and volunteers, and more than 6,000 visitors to the Fraser Coast Region.

According to an Australian Jamboree 2025 spokesman the event aims to “bring together young people from across the country to engage in adventure, challenging, fun and inclusive experiences.”

“This will be the first Australian Scout Jamboree since 2019 with the 2022 event cancelled due to Covid,” the spokesman said.

The ten-day event is expected to bring over $15 million to the Fraser Coast economy, and provide an fresh opportunity for local business to expose their products.

“It will provide opportunities for local businesses to showcase their products and services to a large and diverse audience,” the Australian Jamboree 2025 spokesman said.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour has backed the event and the attention it will bring to the region.

“The decision to stage the 2025 Scout Jamboree at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park is a massive boost for the region,” he said.

“An influx of up to 16,000 visitors will have widespread economic benefits for the entire region.”

As the region continues to bounce back from their own Covid-19 journey Mr Seymour has welcomed the boost.

“For a region that depends heavily on the tourist industry that attention is very welcome,” he said.

The Maryborough Chamber of Commerce have also backed the event and the benefit it will provide to the local businesses and economy.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Maryborough Businesses to showcase what they have to offer,” a spokesman said.

“We are certain that they will embrace this opportunity and give all visitors a warm Maryborough welcome.”
