The first look at the final design of the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road and Pialba-Burrum Heads Road intersection
upgrade was revealed this week.
The design incorporates feedback from impacted stakeholders and the community and includes traffic signals at the intersection to improve traffic flow and road safety, and improvements to pedestrian and bike riding facilities.
“This upgrade will help improve road safety and efficiency for motorists, bike riders and pedestrians at a vital intersection for this community,” Transport Minister Mark Bailey said.
“Community feedback has informed the final design, and I’d like to thank everyone who participated during the engagement process,” Mr Bailey said.

Early works are expected to get underway in the first half of 2024.
Labor Maryborough MP and Assistant Train Manufacturing and Regional Roads Minister Bruce Saunders said it was fantastic to see the release of “this detailed design which has incorporated vital community feedback and recommendations”.
“The four-lane duplication and the installation of dual turn lanes on the Pialba - Burrum Heads Road leg of the intersection will ensure smoother traffic movement at the intersection and improve capacity,” Mr Saunders said.
“Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road on the southern approach to the intersection and Pialba-Burrum Heads Road west of the intersection will increase to four lanes to accommodate major traffic movements and support current and future growth needs.”
