It was meant to be a treat while visiting her son in Hervey Bay but a trip to McDonald’s resulted in a nasty discovery when a mum bit into her mcmuffin.

Biting into her sausage and egg mcmuffin, Margaret Francic knew immediately something was wrong.

The 56-year-old Biggenden woman had driven through Hervey Bay’s McDonald’s outlet and bought a meal for herself and her son, who she was visiting on June 30.

When she swallowed her first bite, she felt something scratch her throat.

At first Ms Francic thought it was a piece of overcooked egg, but when she looked at her mcmuffin, she noticed a piece of green plastic poking out.

“I could not believe it,” she said.

She took the meal back to the restaurant, where one of the workers told her it looked like part of a green plastic glove.

“I was pretty surprised that she said that to me,” Ms Francic said.

Ms Francic returned the mcmuffin and was given a new one from the restaurant.

“I don’t think we are ever going to eat McDonald’s again,” she said.

Ms Francic said she wanted to know how the green glove came to be in the burger and if it had affected anyone else’s meal.

Travelling to Hervey Bay to see her children, the McDonald’s was intended to be a treat for them, she said.

“Sausage and egg mcmuffins are my go-to,” she said.

“It’s kind of put me off a bit.”

A McDonald’s Australia spokesperson said in a statement that the company took food and drink safety “extremely seriously”.

“We follow strict processes and procedures to ensure the quality of our food,” they said.

“We are disappointed to hear of the customer’s experience and are working with the restaurant to investigate this further.”
