A new Sicilian restaurant will throw open its doors to Fraser Coast food lovers on Friday, September 22.

The new eatery, which will feature a cocktail bar and promises dishes straight out of the cookbooks of Sicilian households, is located next to the Beach Motel in the space which once housed the Playa Concha and has since been Seaside Cafe and Restaurant and the Tangy Pickle.

Soprano’s Restaurant and Bar, which will also offer Lobster Mornay and seafood platters is the brainchild of the Polizzi family who moved to the Fraser Coast from Sydney seven years ago.

Despite emigrating 51 years ago, the family's connections with their ancestral home of Palermo remain strong, with function manager Christine Polizzi joking she has “hundreds of cousins” in the city.

She said the Soprano’s menu would be “authentic and original” will all ingredients being sourced locally and the flavours were something that couldn’t be explained until they were tasted.

Named after the iconic television show which followed the trials and tribulations of mobster Tony Soprano, restaurant director Antonio Polizzi said the atmosphere at the Torquay restaurant would be “unmatched” and wanted to deliver a service that would leave customers coming back for more.

The restaurant offers a deli menu (hanging dried meats and other homemade delights are on show), pizza, pasta and a “slice of luxury”’ to patrons who wish to experience “a la carte” dining including seafood platters and Lobster Mornay metres from the beach.

For the first time in many years, the restaurant will also make use of the upstairs function space and can be booked for local events.

Though the family ran a car sales business in Urangan for many years, their heart has always been in hospitality.

Mr Polizzi said the family had been in the food industry “one way or another for 42 years” and family members had gone on to work and own blue ribbon restaurants in Sydney.

Soprano’s can be found at 473 the Esplanade, Torquay and bookings can be made on (07) 4334 0896.
