A building costing just $1 per year is up for grabs for eligible community groups and sporting clubs on the Fraser Coast.
The Tavistock Street building in Torquay, which forms part of the surrounding sporting facility, will be leased by the Fraser Coast Regional Council to the successful applicant for up to 10 years for the symbolic price of $1.
The lease does not come without constraints, the tin building does not currently have certifications with successful applicants to be responsible for it and any required approvals, the council has said.

The reaction to the announcement on Facebook was mixed:
Sheryl Perry said: “So passing on the things that are too hard … what a joke”.
Ross Liech said: “They are obviously short of dollars … which is not surprising considering the way they waste money”.
Kerrie Jackson said: “So wish the council could come up with something like this for the Maryborough women's shed”.

When asked about how much the upkeep of the facilities was costing ratepayers, a council spokesperson said it was minimal, and that the council provided “several leases to various sporting and recreation groups for space and facilities at the Tavistock Street fields.
“Each group is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of their leased areas so the cost to council is minimal,” they said.
“The successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of this leased area once a lease has been executed.”
Expressions of interest in the building close on October 9.
