A “delirious” Tara father who racked up 20 charges during a drug-fuelled crime spree has been given the chance to redeem himself and wean himself off meth.
From May 2020 to August 2021 Tyrone Clarke Welldon Taylor was continually caught with minor amounts of meth, marijuana, prescription medication and utensils due to his rampant drug addiction, Dalby Magistrates Court heard.
Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan said some of the 28-year-old’s more serious offending related to possessing a set of keys reasonably believed to be tainted property, as well as obstructing police, drug driving, and driving while on a disqualified licence.
The court heard Welldon Taylor was even bizarrely pinned for the possession of a protected animal without proper authorisation, being a snake in his home.
None of the specifics of Welldon Taylor’s spree were read into the record by police prosecutor Chris Hutchins.
Sergeant Hutchins said the 28-year-old’s “delirious” spree of low level drug offending was a testament to the hold meth had over the Tara father, and said he needed “one last chance” to address it.
Defence solicitor Jessica Hine said the 28-year-old father of three would be open to probation to address his underlying drug issues.
Welldon Taylor pleaded guilty to six counts of possessing drugs, four of possessing utensils, three of failing to appear, drug driving, driving disqualified, and obstructing police.
He further pleaded guilty to possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, tainted property, restricted drugs, and keeping a protecting animal, and was sentenced to 15 months’ probation, and disqualified from driving for 27 months.
