A 45-year-old woman with an “appalling” history of driving offences has been hit with a 12-month probation order in Dalby Magistrates Court.
Sharlie Green pleaded guilty to four driving offences including driving under the influence of methamphetamine, driving unlicensed, driving uninsured and driving unregistered.
The court was told that on November 8, 2024, police intercepted Green on Rayner St, Dalby subjecting her to a roadside drug test where she returned a positive reading for methamphetamine.
A licence check also revealed Green had lost her licence three months prior due to demerit disqualification. Her insurance and registration had also expired by 66 days.
Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins described her history of road offences as “appalling”.
“I’ve seen your record and I’ve lost count in relation to how many drug driving offences you have,” he said.
Green’s lawyer said while his client had a significant criminal history, much of it stemmed from her being the victim of a domestic violence relationship where drugs were present.
He also said his client’s offending had greatly diminished since leaving the relationship in 2019.
When sentencing magistrate Kathleen Payne took into Green’s extensive history and noted her claims of remorse, telling her “when you’re a repeat drug driver remorse is something only you know if you have”.
Green was sentenced to a 12-month probation order, her licence was disqualified for nine months and she was fined $800. A conviction was recorded.
