Man in his 70s suffers burns in Dalby house fire as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews extinguish blaze

Two people have been seriously injured, including an elderly man with burns to the lower part of his body, following a house fire in Dalby. Here's how fireys believe the blaze started.

A man, believed to be aged in his 70s, has been seriously injured in a house fire, with a second person hospitalised with smoke inhalation.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said multiple fire crews were called to a Palmer St address about 12.47pm following reports of a house engulfed in flames.

A man aged in his 70s suffered significant burns to the lower half of his body, and has been treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics before being taken to Dalby Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A second person, a young man, was also taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition suffering from smoke inhalation.

“The main fire was knocked down by about 1.10pm, and a team in breathing apparatus did a priamry search internally checking the ceiling area for hotspots,” the QFES spokesman said.

“Early indications are this was a barbecue-related fire.”

The QFES spokeswoman said two fire crews were at the scene fore more than an hour, with the ceiling of the building damaged as a result of the fire.
