Water levels are beginning to subside across the Western Downs after heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding.

Rainfall figures from December 31 showed Dalby, Jandowae and Kaimkillenbun were hit with a 75.2mm downpour, while Miles received 26.2mm.

The rainfall was part of major slow-moving supercell which hit the state with more than 150mm impacting South Burnett.

Many of the Western Downs’ roads were covered with up to a metre of rainfall with the Bunya Highway, Edgefield Rd and Dalby Cooyar Rd closed traffic on Tuesday morning.

The impact of the rain was still being felt on Thursday with flood water continuing to rise in Jandowae and Jinghi Creek levels engulfing the Jandowae Connection Rd bridge.

After a wild few days the Western Downs Regional Council said water levels were now beginning to drop.

In a Facebook post council said water levels at the Jandowae water supply dam were falling and are currently 0.36m above the spillway, while in Warra water levels are at 0.73m, 3.27m below the bridge, below the minor flood level of 2.0m.

Council said they would continue to monitor the flow of water from the Jandowae catchment to Warra, but they were not expecting there to be a threat to low-lying areas of Warra.

In Dalby, Myall Creek water levels remain at 0.8m, 1.07m below the Patrick St bridge and water in low lying areas is beginning to subside.

Despite this a number of roads still remain closed in Dalby including Myall St, Allens Rd and Dixon St.

Bradleys Rd in Bell and Hillmead Rd in Kaimkillenbun both also remain closed.

With a warm week ahead as temperatures reach 34C in the Western Downs the remainder of the rain is forecast to clear.
