Flood water is continuing to rise in Jandowae with Jinghi Creek levels expected to engulf the Jandowae Connection Rd bridge.

Queensland Police issued a flood warning for the regional Queensland town, after massive rainfall totals leading into the New Year.

Western Downs Regional Council said the Jandowae Dam spillway had exceeded the moderate flood level of 0.5m, leading to flooding across the town.

Residents were urged to prepare for those conditions.

In the days leading up to Christmas, Jandowae was hit by a storm that delivered 120mm of rain in just a matter of hours.

That storm led to similar flood conditions.

A local resident said while the rainfall had stopped with the dam overflowing they were expecting the water to continue to rise throughout the day.

Another resident said the creek looked like it was “about to burst” and they were expecting some water to run down the main street.

They also said police had been around Wednesday night warning residents of the impending flood.

Jandowae Connection Rd is currently closed to all traffic while Dalby Jandowae Rd remains open.

This is just one of many weather events the area has experienced in recent times with the town of about 1000 people smashed by heavy storms that destroyed crops, flattened homes and flooded roads across the wider region back in October

It comes as two adults and a child were lucky to escape after their vehicle got stuck in floodwaters in the Lockyer Valley region in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident was reported at nearly 2am on Brightview Rd at Lockrose, not far from Gatton.

All occupants managed to escape the car before emergency services arrived.

Brightview Rd is among three roads in the Lockyer Valley closed due to flooding, while another 34 are affected by it.

A similar flood warning was issued across the South Burnett on Wednesday night.

Queensland Police advised residents across that council area to prepare for flash flooding conditions.
