The Western Downs has been thrashed by heavy rainfall overnight with many of the region’s roads still closed.

Rainfall figures show that Dalby, Jandowae and Kaimkillenbun copped the brunt of the storm, facing a 75.2mm deluge, while Miles received 26.2mm.

The downpour was part of major slow-moving supercell which hit the state with over 150mm impacting South Burnett.

Many of the Western Downs’ roads were covered with up to a metre of rainfall with the Bunya Highway, Edgefield Rd and Dalby Cooyar Rd still closed to all traffic as of 7.30am Tuesday morning.

Kaimkillenbun Bell Rd remains open to four-wheel-drives only and is expected to be reopened in the coming hours.

Across the state the SES had 68 storm related callouts with 72 per cent of requests being flood related.

Despite this the Western Downs didn’t require assistance while South Burnett had 43 callouts and Toowoomba had 10.
